Europe is one of the world’s largest e-commerce markets, alongside China and the US. It is home to major giants like Ikea, Zalando, and Otto. But what does the top 10 e-commerce landscape in Europe look like?
While many people associate e-commerce in Europe with American giants like Amazon and eBay or Asian powerhouses like Alibaba and Tencent, Europe boasts its own extensive e-commerce market. Notable European companies include H&M, Carrefour, and Ikea. However, there are also significant local players that hold substantial market shares across Europe.
For example, Wehkamp is a major Dutch online retailer that started in 1952 and remains among the top 10 online stores in the Netherlands each year, although it is less known outside the country.
The largest e-commerce companies in Europe are predominantly based in Western Europe. This region dominates the e-commerce industry, accounting for 68% of total online retail revenue in 2017. Of the top 10 companies listed, three are German and three are French.
